The Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon has been conceived by the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) as a means to build awareness about its activities among the citizens of the city and to create a platform for one and all to contribute to the cause. Ms.Divya Chandran, of CCF addressed the students of SCSA about the philosophy behind the event on September 4th, 2013.
Speaking about the overwhelming response for the event, she was confident that CCF will be able to put Coimbatore firmly on the running calendar. She pointed out how the event has helped raised awareness about CCF and how it would have something for everyone, whether it was a winner or someone who was there just to support a noble cause.
Dwelling on the point of relationship between running and cancer prevention, Ms.Divya Chandran highlighted the fact that recent research is increasingly proving the benefits of regular exercise. She pointed out how running is one of the most easiest and costeffective form of exercise. It doesn’t cost much and require the use of a special facility. She mentioned how a sedentary lifestyle has been contributing to a whole host of diseases including cancer and how regular physical activity, especially running can keep at bay, all these life threatening medical conditions. She also egged on the students to participate in large numbers and make the Coimbatore Marathon a big success.
